Frequently asked questions

Questions about autofetch

Key answers about sources, clients, watches, privacy and the current beta.

What is autofetch?

autofetch is a centrally operated portal that searches and monitors configured sources, creates download jobs and sends them to a client on your own device.

Does autofetch host downloadable content?

No. autofetch does not provide media, IRC networks, channels or third-party download sources. You configure the sources you are authorised to use.

Where are files downloaded?

Directly on the device running your client. Files are not first downloaded to or stored on the autofetch server.

What is a watch?

A watch is a saved search that runs again automatically. It can wait for future availability and create a job when a matching item appears.

What is the difference between Search and Watches?

Search is for a one-off lookup. Watches are persistent and monitor a source repeatedly.

Which systems can run the client?

Client builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux, including common Intel, AMD and ARM environments.

Is autofetch free?

The current core service is free to use. An email-confirmed account and a connected client are required for downloads.

Is the server open source or self-hosted?

The client has a public repository. The server is currently operated centrally and there is no public self-hosting documentation.

Does autofetch track users?

No advertising trackers, marketing cookies or external analytics are used. The service processes operational data required to provide the account, watches, jobs and support.

Is this a finished product?

autofetch is in an early beta. Features and wording may still change, and feedback about unclear workflows or errors is particularly useful.
